Pilate could find no crime Jesus was guilty of committing but in an effort to appease the Jewish leaders, he had Jesus beaten. But this was not enough for this blood thirsty crowd. Pilate wanted nothing to do with killing Jesus but he also did not want to appear as one who sided against Rome, so he bowed to their wishes and ordered Jesus crucified.
